End Task

How to end a buggy program.

How to find out about Processes.  Sometimes viruses will hide in your processes.

When a program freezes or crashes we need to stop it from running.  Here is how to stop a computer program from running.

  1. Press Ctrl - Alt - Delete.

  2. Click the Task Manager button.

  3. We have 3 tabs to look at and click. Everything running in the computer should be found here.

  4. The Applications tab is for the programs that we have started.  Programs that would be found here is Internet Explorer, Solitaire, Microsoft Word, and so on.  Here are the programs I have. 

  5. If a computer program is buggy it will say "Not Responding" under status.

  6. In this example lets say that Internet Explorer has stopped working.  (That isn't hard to believe is it)?

  7. Click Internet Explorer so it blue. 

  8. Click End Task. 

  9. The program will now try to end.

  10. You may be presented with a message that says Send an Error Report or Don't Send.

  11. Click Don't Send.

Here is how to check on what a Process is.  The reason you want to check on a process is so you can find out if it is a virus.

  1. Click Processes on the tab. 

  2. Here is a long list of processes running on your computer.

  3. Most of the processes are fine and give no harm to the computer.  However there might be a process that is doing harm.  We can find out what each process does.

  4. Click Start. 

  5. Click Internet Explorer. 

  6. Go to www.google.com

  7. In the Google Search bar type the name of the process. 

  8. Click Google Search

  9. Read through the first 3 or 4 links to try and find out what the process is.  You shouldn't trust the first website that you read from.
