Print Screen or a Screen Capture

For Today's example we are going to capture a picture of the Press Enterprise.  They are found at www.pe.com  It is our local newspaper.

  1. Locate the Print Screen Button.  It is usually located to the right of the F12 button.  Your Print Screen Button may be located somewhere different but it is probably close to the F12.  It may also be labeled Prnt Scrn.

  2. Find something at www.pe.com that you would like to capture.  Push the Print Screen Button.  This takes a picture of your screen.  You might think that this will print your screen.  It does not.

  3. Click Start.

  4. Click Programs.

  5. Click Microsoft Word.

  6. Click Edit.

  7. Click Paste.

  8. Your picture will appear in Microsoft Word.

  9. Now we want to crop (fancy computer word for cut) part of the picture out.

  10. Click on the picture once.

  11. A black box will appear around the picture.  The black box is made up of smaller black squares around the picture.

  12. Right click on the picture.  A menu should pop up.

  13. Click on "Show Picture."    If yours says "Hide Picture Toolbar" instead of show, that means you already have it.

  14. This is what the toolbar looks like:

  15.   This tool is for cropping (or cutting).  This is the next tool we are going to learn about.

  16. Click on the cropping tool.  Your mouse should turn into a cropping tool.  Sometimes you need to move your mouse off the toolbar in order to see it.

  17. You will need to place the cropping tool right over one of the squares.

  18. When you have it placed over a square your are going to click (hold down the click) and drag.

  19. You can do this from every square until you have just a small piece of the original picture.  Here is what I ended up with from the original picture.

  20. If you like what you have, don't forget to save it.
