Screen Size and Resolution.

Look at these two screens:

  Resolution 800 x 600

Resolution 1024 x 768

These two pictures show larger icons and then smaller icons.  This has to do with resolution.

With a resolution of 800 x 600 you have bigger icons but less room for them.

With a resolution of 1024 x 768 you have smaller icons but more room for them.

800 x 600 is the same as large print in a book.

1024 x 768 is the same as fine print in a book

Resolution becomes important when you go on the Internet.  Websites like Yahoo expect you to have a specific resolution.

Here is how you change it:

  1. Right Click on the desktop.

  2. Click Properties.

  3. Click the settings tab.

  4. Almost all the times you should set your desktop to 1024 x 786 for the Internet.

  5. As a class we decided that we liked 800 x 600.

  6. When you find the setting you want click Ok.

  7. You will then be given 15 seconds to decide if you want to keep the settings.

  8. If you want to keep the settings click yes.
