Updating your Operating System

Questions about computers:  What is an Operating System?

Answer:  The operating system tells the computer how to run.

We can access Windows Update by doing the following.

  1. Click Start.

  2. Place your mouse over All Programs.

  3. Click Windows Update. 

  4. After you click Windows Update you might be asked to download a new piece of software from Microsoft.  Click Install. 

  5. Click Express for updates. 

  6. Take a break because this may take a few minutes.

  7. If you have any updates to install go ahead and install them.  They should keep your computer running fine.

  8. You will see a list of updates to install.  Click Install Updates. 

  9. There might be some more questions.  Click Install, Yes, or Accept for any other questions.

Most computers come setup for automatic updates.  Here is how to check for your automatic updates.

  1. Click Start.

  2. Right Click on My Computer.

  3. Click the tab that says Windows Update. 

  4. Check the follow screen for Automatic Updates and see if you have a check mark next to automatic updates.
