Using a Memory Stick

Q:  What is a memory stick?

A:  A memory stick is a computer device that holds computer files.  It is also named: a flash drive, USB memory thingy, jump drive, or a thumb drive.

Q:  How many computer files can I put on a memory stick?

A:  It depends on the size you purchase.  If you are only backing documents and folders any memory stick will hold all you files.  If you start taking lots of pictures and backing them up your memory stick will fill up.  FYI; an average memory stick will hold hundreds of pictures.

  1. Put the memory stick in your computer.  On most computers there is a USB slot on the front.
  2. The first time you place it in your computer you will get some messages on the bottom right hand corner.
  3. An auto playing screen will pop up.  Click cancel on it.
  4. Click Start.
  5. Click My computer.
  6. Find the removable disk and click it once.  Each computer is different.  It may not e  be the letter E.  Look for the label of removable disk.
  7. To find out how much space is on it.  Right Click the removable disk and click properties.
  8. You will see a pie chart to show you much file space you have left.

Here is how I backup my files.

  1. Navigate to the file or folder that you want to back up.
  2. Right click the folder or file you want to back up.
  3. Click Send To.
  4. Click your removable disk.
