Today we are going to learn how to burn a CD.

  1. We need to buy a CD to burn (copy).  What CD do we buy?

  2. The cheapest and most inexpensive possible.  I wait for Staples, Office Depot, or Best Buy to offer them free with a rebate.

  3. You want the CD - R.  They should be inexpensive.

  4. Open the CD - Player for your computer.

  5. Place the blank CD in your computer.  The shiny side should face down.

  6. Close the CD player.

  7. Give the computer about 1 minute to take a look at the CD.

  8. Click "My Computer."  There are two ways to do this.

    1. Way Number 1.

    2. Go to your desktop and double click "My Computer."

  9. Here is way number 2.

    1. Click Start.

    2. Click My Computer.

  10. You will then see the computer drives.  It looks like this.

  11. Right Click on CD Drive (D:)  (Warning - It is not always Drive D.  It may be another letter).

  12. A menu will pop up.  When the menu pops up Left Click Auto Play.

  13. Give the computer about 30 seconds to think.

    1. What to do if it doesn't work.  My computer was thinking for a few minutes before I threw it out the window.  Then I figured out what was wrong.  Here is the answer.

    2. Right Click again on CD Drive (D:).

    3. Left Click Properties.

    4. A screen like this will pop up.

    5. Left click the tab that says Recording.

    6. You will see a screen like this.

    7. If you have a check mark next to "Enable CD Recording on this drive" you are ready to go.

    8. If you don't have a check mark like me you will need to check the box.

    9. Then click OK.

    10. You are now setup to burn CDs.

  14. Right click again on CD Drive (D:).

  15. Click Auto Play.

  16. Select "Open a Writable CD Folder."

  17. Click OK.

  18. A folder for the CD will appear it will look like this.

  19. What ever you drag into this folder can go onto the CD.

  20. I drag the window and change the size so it looks like this on my desktop.

  21. As you click and drag files you might get an error message like this.

  22. I always click yes.

  23. When you are finished dragging here are the final steps.

  24. Click File.

  25. Click Write these Files to CD.

  26. A window asking for a CD name will appear.  The name is automatically the date.  I leave the date there.

  27. Click Next.

The next time a CD it will be much easier.
