When I was growing up my mom had these pictures she would place callout stickers on.  She would write funny comments like what the person was thinking.  Today's lesson will be about placing callouts on a picture.

  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Programs.

  3. Click Microsoft Word.

  4. Click Insert.

  5. Click Picture.

  6. Click from file.

  7. Find the picture that you want to use and click insert.

  8. Use the cropping tools to change the picture if you want to.  If you don't how to crop refer to the cropping lesson.

  9. First thing is to make sure the drawing toolbar is out.

  10. Click View.

  11. Click Toolbars.

  12. Make sure the Drawing toolbar is checked.

  13. Here is what the drawing toolbar looks like.

  14. Here is the picture I'm starting with.  It is a picture of my two sons.

  15. Click Autoshapes.

  16. Press the delete key.  (This will delete the box that says "Place drawing here.")

  17. Place your mouse over Callouts.  Several different callouts will appear.

  18. Click on the callout you want to use.

  19. Place your mouse on the picture and click and drag.  Click and drag means to hold down the mouse click and drag a couple of inches.

  20. You should end up with a call out.

  21. Type the message in the cloud that you want.

  22. The cloud is pointing the wrong way and we need to fix that.  Look for a yellow diamond at the bottom left hand corner.  It is hard to see because the shaded line is covering it.  If you don't see the yellow diamond try click on the edge of the cloud.

  23. Click on the yellow diamond and move it to the other side.
