Print Screen and Printing Pictures

Microsoft Word is a nice way to print pictures.  Print Screen is a way to take pictures of the computer screen.  For today we are going to take a picture of a game of Solitaire.

This lesson is broken into two parts.

Shrinking

Cropping (or cutting)

Shrinking

  1. Locate the Print Screen Button.  It is usually located to the right of the F12 button.  Your Print Screen Button may be located somewhere different but it is probably close to the F12.  It may also be labeled Prnt Scrn.

  2. Push the Print Screen Button.  This takes a picture of your screen.  You might think that this will print your screen.  It does not.

  3. Click Start.

  4. Click Programs.

  5. Click Microsoft Word.

  6. Click Edit.

  7. Click Paste.

  8. Your picture will appear in Microsoft Word.

  9. Click on the picture once.  When you click on the picture it should be outlined in a black box.  There should be boxes in the corners and sides.

  10. There 8 little boxes.  These boxes are used changing the size of the picture.

  11. The two middle boxes on the top and middle will shrink your picture vertically.  Click on either square and move your mouse.

  12. The two middle boxes on the right side and left side will shrink your picture horizontally.  Click on either square and move your mouse.

  13. You might notice that your pictures get skewed when you shrink vertically and horizontally.

  14. I ALWAYS shirnk from the corner.  If you shrink from the corner it will shrink horizontally and vertically at the same time.

Cropping

  1. Right click on the picture.  A menu should pop up.

  2. Click on "Show Picture."    If yours says "Hide Picture Toolbar" instead of show, that means you already have it.

  3. This is what the toolbar looks like:

  4. You can change the appearance of the picture with these buttons.

  5.   These buttons will make the picture brighter or dimmer.

  6.   This tool is for cropping (or cutting).  This is the next tool we are going to learn about.

  7. Click on the cropping tool.  Your mouse should turn into a cropping tool.

  8. You will need to place the cropping tool right over one of the squares.

  9. Click and drag your mouse to crop the picture.  Here is what the picture looks like before.

  10. Here is after the first crop.  I had to click and drag to the left.

  11. Here is the next crop.

  12. Here is the next crop.

  13. Here is the last crop.

  14. Now the Ace of spades is kind of small.  Click once on the Ace of Spades so you have squares around it.

  15. Click on the bottom right hand corner and drag away from the card.
